Dental Veneers

Everyone wants to have a perfect smile.  However, there are only a very few people who are actually born with a perfect, or near perfect, set of teeth.  The majority of us have some crooked teeth, with a little discoloration, a chip or two and maybe a gap or a missing tooth.  This is why at least 90% of us could really use a complete dental makeover.  Unfortunately, this is such an outrageously expensive concept that we never really give it much thought and instead, simply disregard it as an impossibility.  Thankfully this is changing today and dental porcelain veneers are quickly becoming cheaper, making them a great, quick alternative with massive life altering effects.

In the past, people who had crooked teeth either had to have extensive dental surgery, braces and orthodontics or resort to going through life hiding their teeth and not smiling, thus leaving them with much lower self esteem.  Many of the aforementioned alternatives are quite expensive and they are not covered by many dental insurance plans.  Today though, you can have thin porcelain veneers applied to your teeth for much less than any of these other methods.  This can instantly correct any misaligned or crooked teeth that you may have.  Plus this can also whiten the front 16 to 20 teeth in your mouth, making them look like as though they have a perfect, or near perfect, smile.

If you are interested in getting cosmetic porcelain veneers, your dentist or oral surgeon will first do a thorough and deep cleaning of your teeth.  They will then use a grinding or abrasion tool to remove between 1 and 2 mm of your teeth’s front surface area in order to provide a better bonding surface for the veneers, as well as to provide room to correct any of your teeth that may either be crooked or misaligned.  After this is done your dentist will then make impressions of your teeth.  This can be done in several different ways depending upon which manufacturer’s kit your dentist is choosing to work with.  Regardless of the manufacturer, the results are all the same.  Your impressions will then be used in order to make your veneers.

Unfortunately, your dentist or oral surgeon is not the person who makes your actual veneers.  Instead your impressions must be sent out to a medical company that specifically specializes in dental veneers.  This is mainly because the porcelain dental veneers are actually quite fragile until they are installed and properly bonded or cemented to your teeth.  After the bonding is done though, they become very strong.  In fact, they are as strong as, or even stronger than, your original teeth.  This is why dental veneers get broken or chipped far less often than your real teeth do.  Therefore, once you have these dental veneers installed you can pretty much enjoy your new smile and look without a whole lot of worries.
