Implant Complications
Fortunately, the majority of patients who get dental implants do not have many complications. However, there are some problems that sometimes occur, including:
1.The bone and gums that surround your dental implant can become infected and lead to complications. More than likely this will occur whenever your dental implant is first placed into your jaw. This is because the human mouth is just filled with germs and even though the greatest care is taken to avoid such contamination, the tissues around a newly inserted dental implant can easily become infected.
2.Your body does not want to have any foreign object placed inside of it. Anything that is not commonly part of your body may be pushed out because the item is viewed as a foreign body. Of course, this is something that can happen whenever you have dental implants placed in your mouth. Of course, this can also happen with other types of surgeries, such as a kidney or liver transplants, as well.
3.Until your jawbone heals around your dental implant, it is important to reduce the biting pressures in your mouth in order that the supporting bone is protected while it undergoes the healing process. Overload can also be caused here if 2 or 3 teeth are placed on just 1 implant. Since nature designed teeth to have 1 tooth root for each crown, this same rule should be followed whenever it comes to dental implants as well.
4.Most dental implants are made of metal. This metal is usually titanium. While titanium is strong, it is still able to bend and break. Herein the complication lies in the fact that the metal fixtures that are a part of your dental implant may break. Of course, today this is a lot less common than it was years ago. This is because dental implants are designed and manufactured with a lot more detail today.
5.You might encounter some bone loss around your natural teeth. This type of bone loss is known as periodontal disease. Of course, this is something that is also possible if you have dental implant – you can still have bone loss around your dental implants. However, even if you suffer from severe bone loss your dental implant may actually become immobile. For this reason, it is very important to have regular dental X-rays taken of your dental implants in order to monitor your surrounding bone.
6.Another complication that can be caused by dental implants is inflammation. Herein the bone and gums that surround your dental implant can become inflamed. There are many different reasons as to why this can happen. You need to be aware of such inflammation as it can be a serious complication if you have dental implants.
7.It is also possible for the incision line that was made in order to provide you with your dental implants could come open.
This is only some of the possible problems that you could encounter with dental implants. In order to avoid complications such as these, it is important to visit your dental implant dentist regularly.
